IKI Values and Responsibility: Turning Principles into Action
|
Dear IKI partners and friends,
Transparency and fairness lie at the core of the International Climate Initiative (IKI). Turning these values into practice requires robust instruments to guide every project.
The IKI Safeguards System — together with the IKI Independent Complaint Mechanism — helps ensure that international environmental and social standards are upheld and that harm to people and nature is prevented or minimised.
Gender justice is also central to IKI’s commitment. International Women’s Day in March provides a timely opportunity to highlight this focus: The funding programme actively promotes gender-transformative approaches within international climate and biodiversity cooperation, while embedding gender-responsive processes as a minimum standard at the project level. It recognises that inclusive climate and biodiversity action leads to stronger, more sustainable outcomes.
In this IKI newsletter edition, we have compiled interviews and insights from various areas of IKI’s work, illustrating how the programme’s values are put into practice: ranging from the role of safeguards in nature conservation in Colombia, through the progress of the IKI Independent Complaint Mechanism, to examples from project work that show how the IKI supports women worldwide in shaping climate action.
