As the world gathers for COP30: A closer look at the IKI’s work in Brazil
|
|
Dear IKI partners and friends,
In mid-November, the global community will come together in Belém, Brazil, for this year’s United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30). This provides a timely opportunity to highlight the work of the International Climate Initiative (IKI) in Brazil – one of the programme’s 14 current priority countries.
Through this geographical focus, the IKI directs its support towards developing and emerging economies which together account for almost 50 per cent of global greenhouse gas emissions. At the same time, all IKI priority countries are among the world’s 25 biodiversity hotspots, where rich ecosystems are under threat from significant habitat loss.
Brazil, one of the IKI’s key partner countries, is home to unique and vital ecosystems such as the Amazon Basin rainforest and the Atlantic Forest. The country also holds vast potential for renewable energy: currently, around 80 per cent of its electricity generation comes from renewable sources.
Read on to discover how IKI projects in Brazil are advancing adaptation to the impacts of climate change, strengthening forest conservation and climate action in partnership with indigenous communities, and harnessing digital tools to make mobility safer, smarter and more sustainable.
Enjoy reading!
Best regards,
Your IKI Communications Team
